Grant is a patio addition project of little details and interventions: the insertion of carefully considered material, texture, and form to bring new life to an existing space. A custom steel frame gate with evenly-spaced cedar slats slides open effortlessly despite its mass, opening to a backyard oasis. Inside, a custom precast fireplace and cedar soaking tub beckon, each playing with an offset circle cut from a framed square. All the interventions were intended to complement the existing modern house, adding little bits of vitality during the indoor year of the pandemic.
